ANO RECTAL EXAMINATION!!!
the pic above is a a tiny anal abscess, the patient complained of burning sensation while defecatingStrange name to start offa blog i presume!!
but it was my first time and i am more than excited to write about the first experience in the faecal orifice.
There were over 10 patients in the waiting to get their per rectal examination in order to check for any pile mass or a fissure>
Pile masses and anal fissures are two most common pathologies found in ano- rectal region.
PROCEDURE
Sterile surgical gloves are worn
2. the patient is made to lie down in the lithotomy position (prone position with your legs firmly flexed and held close to the chin) .
3. A sterile cotton swab with antiseptic liquid is used to clean the concerned area under examination.
4. The area is then checked externally to locate fissure's or swelling viz oedema, or abscess .
5. We then proceed firther into the rectum making sure the patient is breathing heavily in order to ease the strain over the rectal muscles.
6. a finger is then inserted into the anal canal after annointing it with an analgesic jelly , the figer is then assigne the task of an inspector,
the inserted index is then turned aroun the rectum 360 degrees to check for either congestions or debris.
--- in a male its very important to check for the normal tecture and situation of the prostrate with is found easily on raising the finger up against the upper wall or anterior wall of the rectum.
(teh prostrate is a beautiful organ, the organ responsible for a mans masculinity btw )
the procedure ends by withdrawing the index slowly out of the rectum .
NOTE: The rectum gives teh exact temperature of teh internal body... its about 1 degree centigrade higher than the oral or buccal temperratere, you'll feel the heat if you personally shove a finger up the anus too..
rectum again is the mos-t re-liable source for obtaining apt temperature in paediatric cases and even in veternary science.
